Florence, Italy: In love in Florence.
Florence, oh, Florence. I am deeply in love with you. It is amazingly beautiful city. All of the things you've heard about Florence is true. It is even better than on pictures.
Visit Florence and "check-in" at Piazzale Michelangelo is simply A MUST. The square itself is nothing special. But the view! The view on Florence is amazing.
Here they are, right in front of you, all of the major attractions of the city: the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, Florence Cathedral, and all Florence seems like a toy miniature.
Speaking of Ponte Vecchio. The Old bridge, the oldest of Florence's six bridges, is one of the city's best known images.
The little "houses" you see on the Ponte Vecchio are all small shops! Today, they are all or mostly all jewelry shops, as it was decreed by the Medici family so that there wouldn't be a stink as they passed overhead through the corridor that Vasari built to let the family go from Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti without having to mingle with the crowds.
While waiting for the bus, we met a wonderful old man from Arizona who travels alone. His wife died so he decided to spend all of his money to see the world. He came here for 6 days. Just saw an article in the newspaper about Florence and bought the ticket. And the next day he is here. I don't know why but he made a great impression on me. I remember we almost missed a bus trying to buy a ticket, and he just waved his hand and said, "Ah, I do not worry 'bout the tickets here". I wonder how is he doing right now.
All main sights are in the center of the city, so you won't need a car to see them.
I fell in love with Florence at a glance. I think that the following acquaintance will only strengthen first impression.
